Expo. Is. On.

MJSAMJSA is back! The longest-running show devoted to jewelry-making equipment, supplies, and services, MJSA Expo returns March 20-22 to the Javits Center in New York City, where it will once again run simultaneously with the JA New York show.

MJSA Expo has been called a “toy store” for anyone who creates jewelry. There’s good reason for that. Whatever you need – from chain, components, and gems, to alloys, bench tools, and production technologies – you’ll find them at Expo. Not only will you find them, you’ll be able to get a feel for them: to hold tools in your hands, to see technologies in action, to experience how a gem holds the light, to gauge the strength and heft of the metals and materials that your customers will wear against their skin. You can touch, test, and play to your heart’s content.

You’ll also find subcontractors with expertise in a range of services, from casting and CAD/CAM to plating and assembly. Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes, and Expo’s contractors have a wealth of experience to expand your capabilities and turn your dreamed-up concepts into reality.

That expertise extends into our series of seminars, MJSA Journal LIVE. Based on the technical and business expertise found in the monthly MJSA Journal, the seminars will feature some of the industry’s brightest minds tackling issues such as how to recruit and hire staff, avoid burnout and charge your creativity, and navigate the trends that will shape 2022.

MJSA Expo is also about community – to connect with colleagues and enjoy those face-to-face encounters that build relationships and lead to ideas, inspiration, and transformation. The past two years have offered many lessons, and one of the most important is how vital community connections are to our creativity, our sense of well-being, and our success.

No matter what your plans are for 2022 – to get more efficient, launch new products, scale up – Expo’s exhibitors can help you reach your goals and transform your business. Consumers are more excited about jewelry than they’ve been in decades, and they are particularly interested in unique, well-designed, responsible work. MJSA Expo is your place to find everything you need to take advantage of this demand – you don’t want to miss it.

Just go to MJSAExpo.org and click on the orange “Register” button; signing up takes only a few seconds. (There’s even an opportunity for you to invite a friend so you don’t have to walk the aisles alone.)

If you’d like information about exhibiting at Expo, contact Sales Director Lucy Ferreira at 800-444-MJSA (6572), ext. 3020, lucy.ferreira@mjsa.org. She’ll be happy to help.

MJSA Expo is presented by Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America, the trade alliance dedicated to professional excellence in jewelry making and design.

The Story Behind the Stone: Metal Mashup

Reading Time: 6 minutes I have to confess I just learned about electrum when this topic crawled up on my radar. We love the wide range of jewelry metals today that give consumers tremendous options for creating the exact piece of their dreams. Metal alloys are some of the more exciting variations for imaginative jewelry designers to work with. These options better reflect the tastes of a client and help them to personalize their jewelry, making it truly unique to them. Natural Alloy One topic catching my eye at the moment is a rare and naturally occurring metal alloy – electrum. This word, electrum may be uncommon to modern society, but it’s a Latin word derived from the Greek electron mentioned in the Odyssey referring to a metallic substance consisting of gold alloyed with silver. Electrum was usually called white gold in antiquity. But more accurately it was described as pale gold since ...
