Apparently, nothing says, “I love you, Mom” quite like jewelry. That’s because Mother’s Day drives more consumer demand for jewelry than any other holiday – when the category experiences a 38% increase in demand compared to the average during the rest of the year.
This, according to a new data analysis from Pattern, a global ecommerce accelerator.
Ahead of Mother’s Day the data science team at Pattern tracked consumer demand (or the number of people shopping for a given item during a given period) on Amazon during every day of 2021 to determine how consumers like to celebrate Mom.
Here are the key findings:
- What type of jewelry proves most popular? Necklaces with a 56% increase in demand the week before Mother’s Day, followed by bracelets with a 17% increase, and earrings with a 10% increase.
- Rose quartz proves to be the most popular type of gem, seeing a 100% bump in demand ahead of Mother’s day. Other popular gems for the holiday include:
- Emeralds with an 87% increase in demand
- Sapphires with a 48% increase
- Turquoise with a 34% increase
Other popular gifts for Mother’s Day include household items:
- Chocolate baking products saw a 33% lift the week before Mother’s Day
- Kitchen racks & holders saw a 44% increase in demand
Looks like consumers also want to give practical gifts they know will be used.
