Only Natural Diamonds launches first digital cover starring Karen Elson

(NEW YORK) – Only Natural Diamonds (OND), the consumer-facing, multichannel digital platform powered by Natural Diamond Council has launched its first-ever digital cover featuring supermodel and musician, Karen Elson.

The inaugural Spring cover marks newly appointed Editor in Chief Sam Broekema’s first cover for OND. Only Natural Diamonds is planning a quarterly cover cadence.

Only Natural Diamonds serves as the premiere destination for diamond inspiration and the channel for many different diamond stories. The choice to seasonally culminate its storytelling with an of-the-moment visual representation was a natural progression of its content platform, which saw over 130 million unique visitors in 2021.

Karen Elson stars in the Spring ‘22 Only Natural Diamonds digital cover wearing diamond jewelry by Bulgari (earrings and bracelet) London Jewelers (necklace), and Omega (watch); coat by Gucci.

“The standard bearer of cultural significance is the cover,” says Broekema. “We’re excited to mark this season with a cover star who naturally embodies the inherent values of natural diamonds. There are few models who have the staying power of Karen Elson, who defined grunge-era-cool, then evolved into a runway maven par excellence, and then reinvented herself as a boho songbird. Like a natural diamond, Karen stands outside of the trends and transcends versatility.”

“Karen Elson is a role model who represents self-assured feminine independence and strength mirroring an exciting trend in the current diamond market,” says Kristina Buckley Kayel, Managing Director of Natural Diamond Council. “Female self-purchase of diamond jewelry is officially outpacing the bridal market in terms of sales value. In thinking of that consumer, we wanted our first cover star to epitomize her.”

The cover was shot in New York City by Jennifer Livingston and will be accompanied by an exclusive interview with its star, as well as an extensive 13-page editorial and video infused with new ideas for styling modern diamond jewelry. Jewelry brands incorporated in the shoot include Bulgari, Cartier, Birthright Foundry (a participant in NDC’s Emerging Designers Diamond Initiative), KHIRY (a participant in NDC’s Emerging Designers Diamond Initiative), Van Cleef & Arpels, London Jewelers, Harwell Godfrey, Bucherer, Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Mateo, and Tabeyer.

The Story Behind the Stone: Metal Mashup

Reading Time: 6 minutes I have to confess I just learned about electrum when this topic crawled up on my radar. We love the wide range of jewelry metals today that give consumers tremendous options for creating the exact piece of their dreams. Metal alloys are some of the more exciting variations for imaginative jewelry designers to work with. These options better reflect the tastes of a client and help them to personalize their jewelry, making it truly unique to them. Natural Alloy One topic catching my eye at the moment is a rare and naturally occurring metal alloy – electrum. This word, electrum may be uncommon to modern society, but it’s a Latin word derived from the Greek electron mentioned in the Odyssey referring to a metallic substance consisting of gold alloyed with silver. Electrum was usually called white gold in antiquity. But more accurately it was described as pale gold since ...
