(CINCINNATI) – Ethical Metalsmiths is pleased to announce the appointment of incoming President Christina Malle of Christina Malle Designs in New York, NY.
Malle is taking the reins from outgoing president Monica Stephenson of Anza Gems who has served as Ethical Metalsmiths’ Board President for the last three years. Stephenson will remain on the Board of Directors.
Malle has been an Ethical Metalsmiths member for over ten years, has served as an Advisor and joined the Board of Directors in 2018. She is a goldsmith, GIA certified Graduate Gemologist and a former human rights attorney. Her company, Christina Malle Designs, became an official Fairmined Licensee in 2019. She has been a vocal advocate for environmental and human rights accountability in the jewelry industry and has written and spoken widely on the topics.
Malle was educated at Dartmouth College (AB), New York University School of Law (JD) and the Gemological Institute of America (GG). She learned goldsmithing at New York City’s 92nd Street Y and from master goldsmith Donna Distefano of New York.
She observed that: “While it is daunting to follow in the footsteps of Monica Stephenson and her predecessor Alexandra Hart, it is reassuring to know that they are both continuing in leadership roles at Ethical Metalsmiths. Between EM’s very active and formidable Board of Directors, its fantastic Advisory Council and indispensable Executive Director Barbara Wheat, we anticipate that EM’s work towards a more responsible jewelry community will steam ahead energetically.”
