Michael Gold, who has combined jazz virtuosity and business expertise in keynote presentations for some of the world’s largest corporations and nonprofits, will deliver the keynote session for MJSA ConFAB, March 9 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Presented by MJSA, the alliance for professional excellence in jewelry making and design, the full-day ConFAB conference will offer intriguing and unconventional presentations to show how to establish a firm business foundation for innovation, breakthrough success, and continued growth.
Gold is the founder of Jazz Impact, an organization that uses what it calls the “five dynamics of jazz – Autonomy, Passion, Risk, Innovation, and Listening” to craft programs promoting creative business strategies, innovation, and sustainability. A former senior-level executive and a professional jazz bassist who has played with such legends as Lee Konitz, Tal Farlow, and Sheila Jordan, he and his fellow Jazz Impact musicians have presented keynote workshops worldwide. Their clients have included Siemens, Starbucks, Target, IBM, General Mills, the Mayo Clinic, and the United Nations, among others. Gold has also been a visiting lecturer at the Kellogg School of Management since 2007, developing arts-based learning modules for the school’s Executive MBA and Leadership Development programs, and his articles have appeared in such prestigious journals as the Journal of Business Strategy.
His keynote for MJSA ConFAB will focus on “The Foundations of Innovation,” exploring how risk-taking, improvisation, flexibility, and comfort with failure all serve as stepping stones to a more resilient, adaptable, and innovative company DNA. It will kick off a full-day of sessions exploring best businesses in a range of formats, from 15-minute “short takes” to in-depth explorations and interactive games.
MJSA ConFAB will precede MJSA Expo, the annual show dedicated to the latest jewelry-making tools, supplies, services, and techniques, which runs March 10 – 12 at New York’s Jacob K. Javits Center.
ConFAB is co-sponsored by the MJSA Education Foundation, the alliance’s 501(c)3 subsidiary that fosters career and training initiatives. To learn more, go to MJSA.info/confab.
