Christie’s June auction to feature The Eden Rose

Reading Time: 4 minutes

(NEW YORK) – Christie’s presents The Eden Rose, a 10.20 carat Round Brilliant Fancy Intense Pink Diamond as the leading highlight of New York Magnificent Jewels auction on June 11, 2024, during Christie’s Luxury Week. This exceptionally rare gemstone, estimated at US $9,000,000 – 12,000,000, is the most significant round brilliant internally flawless fancy intense pink diamond to be offered at auction since the Martian Pink sold at Christie’s Hong Kong in 2012.

This extraordinary diamond exhibits a pure pink hue. While many natural pink diamonds typically display secondary hues such as purple, orange, or grey, The Eden Rose stands out for its complete absence of any secondary color, rendering it exceptionally rare. Further enhancing its allure is its Type IIa classification and remarkable flawless clarity.

The round brilliant cut, known for its ability to maximize light reflection, is considered the ideal cut for diamonds, meticulously crafted to accentuate the stone’s natural attributes. With its 10.20 carat weight expertly preserved, and its dimensions perfected through the round brilliant cut, The Eden Rose promises a mesmerizing display of brilliance, showcasing its finest natural features to perfection.

Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International Head of Jewlery says”: “Christie’s excels in presenting our collectors with the highest level of quality, exemplified by The Eden Rose. Given its rarity, we are anticipating significant interest from around the world. Twelve years ago, collectors were captivated by The Martian Pink, a highly rare and covetable gemstone, sold in our Hong Kong sale in 2012. The stone surpassed its estimate to achieve a record price of $17 million, equating to $1.45 million per carat. The Eden Rose has never been offered at auction and we are proud to be presenting a jewel of its unmatched caliber for the first time this June in New York.”

The Eden Rose will be on exhibition at Christie’s Hong Kong from May 24 – 27. This rare diamond will then be on display to the public during Christie’s Luxury Week at Christie’s Rockefeller Center in New York City from June 7 – 10.

The Story Behind the Stone: Metal Mashup

Reading Time: 6 minutes I have to confess I just learned about electrum when this topic crawled up on my radar. We love the wide range of jewelry metals today that give consumers tremendous options for creating the exact piece of their dreams. Metal alloys are some of the more exciting variations for imaginative jewelry designers to work with. These options better reflect the tastes of a client and help them to personalize their jewelry, making it truly unique to them. Natural Alloy One topic catching my eye at the moment is a rare and naturally occurring metal alloy – electrum. This word, electrum may be uncommon to modern society, but it’s a Latin word derived from the Greek electron mentioned in the Odyssey referring to a metallic substance consisting of gold alloyed with silver. Electrum was usually called white gold in antiquity. But more accurately it was described as pale gold since ...
