The Women Spirit Lives On

Blancpain has a long history in the world of women’s watches. Betty Fiechter, who took the helm of the Maison in 1933 and remained in charge until 1967, became the first woman to own and lead a Swiss watch brand. Under her leadership, Blancpain revolutionised the 1930s with the production of the ‘Rolls’, the first automatic wristwatch for women.

This early spirit of innovation laid the foundations for Blancpain’s enduring expertise in feminine watchmaking. In 1956, the Brand achieved a significant technical milestone with the introduction of the smallest round mechanical movement of its time, measuring just 11.85 mm, an expression of boldness and technical mastery at a time when women’s watches were often concealed within jewelry rather than celebrated as true timepieces.

This pioneering spirit endures in the Villeret collection, distinguished by classical aesthetic codes. A testament to this nearly century-old legacy, the new mini Villeret Saint-Valentin 2026, infused with love, embodies the Maison’s enduring commitment to feminine watchmaking, where miniaturisation, timeless design, and technical excellence come together in a refined expression of Blancpain’s heritage.

A Pure Design

It’s a 21.50 mm gold case, set with diamonds on the bezel, and its dial, crowned with a dazzling heart-cut diamond at twelve, shines with subtle brilliance. The absence of indexes on the white mother-of-pearl dial enhances its fluid lines and purity of form, while delicate open-worked hands glide across its minimalist surface. Vibrant and delicately textured, the nacre perlée dial brings this piece to life. Exceptionally rare, it is sourced in very limited quantities from select cultured shells. Cut from the shell’s most curved central area, it represents less than 2% of the usable mother-of-pearl, hence its exceptional nature.

Mechanics for Women

Designed for women seeking both aesthetics and technical mastery, this new Valentine’s Day edition beats with Manufacture calibre 615, a compact movement measuring just 15.70 mm in diameter. Equipped with a silicon hairspring, it offers improved precision and resistance to magnetism, while the sapphire case back reveals meticulous decorations crafted according to Haute Horlogerie tradition. Decorated with an engraved heart on the oscillating weight, the automatic movement offers a 38-hour power reserve, ensuring the operation of the essential timekeeping functions – hours and minutes – to preserve the perfect purity of the design.

A Limited Edition in the Name of Love

In a nod to passion, the watch is paired with a “Chérie red” leather strap that echoes the burning color of love. This exclusive timepiece is limited to just 14 pieces, a symbolic reference to February 14th, making it as rare and precious as the emotion it honors.

The Story Behind the Stone: Metal Mashup

Reading Time: 6 minutes I have to confess I just learned about electrum when this topic crawled up on my radar. We love the wide range of jewelry metals today that give consumers tremendous options for creating the exact piece of their dreams. Metal alloys are some of the more exciting variations for imaginative jewelry designers to work with. These options better reflect the tastes of a client and help them to personalize their jewelry, making it truly unique to them. Brooch with a griffin, from the necropolis of Kameiros, Rhodes, c.  625–600 BC (Louvre). Natural Alloy One topic catching my eye at the moment is a rare and naturally occurring metal alloy – electrum. This word, electrum may be uncommon to modern society, but it’s a Latin word derived from the Greek electron mentioned in the Odyssey referring to a metallic substance consisting of gold alloyed with silver. Electrum was usually called white gold in antiquity. But more accurately it was described as pale gold since ...
