The Meeting of Swiss Watchmaking and Mexican Art

Franck Muller presents The Art of Time, a limited edition created in collaboration with Mexican artist Amador Montes. This creation brings together the Swiss watchmaker’s identity and the Oaxacan artist’s creative universe. Based on the iconic Vanguard, the collection incorporates elements characteristic of Montes’s work, offering an artistic interpretation of one of the brand’s most recognizable designs.

The Creative Universe of Amador Montes

With more than 25 years of experience, Mexican visual artist Amador Montes has become a recognized figure in the country’s creative scene. He has held more than 130 exhibitions across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Through this collaboration, his distinctive artistic language meets Franck Muller’s watchmaking expertise, creating a unique dialogue between contemporary art and refined watchmaking.

The Art Behind the Watch

For this collaboration, Montes brought some of his most representative elements to the dial. One notable motif is the crane fly, a recurring figure in his visual universe; its wings inspired the hand design. The camel-colored dial, with a micro-blasted finish, features illustrations and personal references from the artist, while the pink crown introduces one of the distinctive colors in his work. The result preserves the Vanguard’s identity while introducing an aesthetic concept developed especially for this edition.

Automatic Watchmaking

The Vanguard Slim Amador Montes features an in-house MVT FM 708 movement with 136 components. Its self-winding mechanism draws energy from the natural motion of the wrist, ensuring precise timekeeping through an intricate assembly of mechanical components. This movement brings Franck Muller’s watchmaking expertise to the artistic collaboration with Amador Montes.

A Limited Edition

The Vanguard Slim Amador Montes is offered as a limited edition of 60 timepieces, uniting Swiss watchmaking with the distinctive artistic universe of Mexican artist Amador Montes. The collection includes 10 pieces in stainless steel and 10 in 18k rose gold, each with a 35 mm wide, 8.7 mm thick case and two interchangeable straps, one pink and one camel. A special presentation box, designed by Amador Montes, extends the artist’s visual language to both its exterior and interior, completing this exclusive expression of art and watchmaking.

Vanguard Case

The Vanguard is Franck Muller’s emblematic tonneau shape, celebrated for its bold and avant-garde aesthetic. Defined by its unique curves, it blends elegance and sportiness while ensuring exceptional comfort on the wrist. Its flowing contours and meticulous craftsmanship reflect the brand’s dedication to innovation and sophistication, resulting in a truly extraordinary case.

Rose Gold Material

Crafted from a solid block of 18K rose gold, this case radiates an unmistakable warm glow and refined elegance. Known for its fundamental value and its beauty, the rose gold case embodies uniqueness and sophistication in every detail.

Caramel Inserts

Each side of the case features caramel inserts, adding personality and a refreshing burst of color that complements the timepiece’s architectural lines, creating a perfect blend of elegance and boldness.

Integrated Strap

Instead of the traditional spring-bar technique, this strap integrates seamlessly into the case with two unseen screws, creating a smooth transition between strap and case. Meticulous stitching along its edges further enhances its durability and refined appearance. This thoughtful combination of finishes and craftsmanship ensures that the integrated strap is as comfortable to wear as it is captivating to behold.

The Retailer’s Perspective: It’s Showtime (Again)!

I just got home from the Atlanta Jewelry Show, and thought I’d share some thoughts and discoveries with everyone from the show. Here’s what you missed if you haven’t been to a trade show in a while. First and foremost… They are fun! The really cool thing about a trade show is the interaction with your longtime friends and business associates. I’ve got friends in this business that I’ve known for 43 years. Many of those friends I’ve only seen face-to-face 43 times – always at a trade show . A jewelry trade show is a hands-on experience. Most days I’m at the point that I don’t want to look at another piece of jewelry on a phone or computer screen. I don’t care how many pics you take, and how many angles you shoot it from, you never really capture the essence of the piece. Being real jewelers , we know the only way to evaluate, and assess, a piece’s true quality and workmanship is to hold it in our hands. A jewelry trade show is a full blown, hands-on, experience. We’ve all bought jew...

Elongated Diamond Shapes Are Taking Over Jewelry

Reading Time: 9 minutes Key takeaways • Elongated diamond shapes like ovals, marquise, pears, baguettes, cushions, and radiants are dominating consumer demand and shifting retailer buying patterns away from traditional round cuts. • These shapes provide strong finger coverage and create the optical illusion of a larger stone face-up compared to round diamonds of the same carat weight. • The trend is significantly accelerated by the accessibility of lab-created diamonds, allowing buyers to select larger proportions and higher carat weights. For decades, the round brilliant diamond remained the undisputed leader of jewelry. It was the traditional standard for engagement rings, bridal jewelry, and many fine jewelry collections, prized for its timelessness and unmatched brilliance. But over the last several years, the market has undergone a dramatic transformation. Today, elongated diamond cuts, particularly oval, marquise, pear, baguette, and elongated cushion and radiant c...
